For many students, going straight to a career or training program after high school is a great option for future success. Too many students, however, do not realize the wide variety of career options available to them and default to those they know from friends, family, media, or simply what might be readily available. CTE educators can serve a vital role in helping students to take stock of their own strengths, preferences, and interests; align those with potential career options; and map out the path from high school to the specific career roles and relevant training.

Below are a series of questions to begin this important dialogue. CTE educators can use these questions to talk with students to spark communication, forge connections, and inspire insights into what drives them and what they hope for the future.
